Hair Today.....

It may be unhealthy, but I have always felt a certain amount of vanity when it comes to my kid's hair. But when your kids have hair like this.........

...Can you blame me????

I always love seeing the looks on the Doctor's nurse's faces when my babies come out with a part on the left side and pony tail (okay, the last one was an exaggeration). I still remember when Siobhan was born and the nurses all said that they had never seen a baby with hair like that who came from Caucasian parents. It's always a fun conversation starter and it never fails that said conversation will have some variation on the phrase, 'my kids were bald until age....' While all this hair is so much fun and beautiful, it has it's pitfalls. I have spent hours upon hours brushing hair. I have spent a lot of money on shampoo, detangler, hair gel, combs, brushes, rubber bands, bows, etc. I can't tell you how many times a day I re-do pony tails. On the upside, my kid's gender is usually pretty easy to guess.
Anyway, while having all this hair is a blessing of sorts, there are a lot of children who don't have that blessing in their lives and not just because it took a few years to grow in after birth. Many kids have illnesses which deprive them of a beautiful head of hair. How sad would it be to be a little five year old girl who can't wear pig tails like her friends? As a mother, I can't imagine not being able to spend special time with my daughter coming up with fun hair styles. So Siobhan and I decided that it was probably time to pass that blessing on to other kids who don't have any hair. We decided that after almost four years of growing, we were going to get it cut and donate it to Locks of Love. We found a kids salon in Lone Tree which does free hair cut and styling if you're going to donate it. So we decided that today was the day. Her first REAL hair cut and it was a big one!

Before we left for the salon.

Holding her 12 inch long braid that will be on it's way tomorrow.

Shaping and trimming.

Siobhan sporting her new sassy bob. I was so proud of Siobhan and her willingness to give something so personal to those in need. We had been talking about how her hair was going to be given to a little kid who doesn't have any. She asked me what their name was, so we came up with a back story. I had to make something up on the spot and for all she knows, I told her the truth. In Siobhan's mind, her hair is going to a little girl names Jane who live in New York City. On the way home, Siobhan said she wanted to talk to Jane but I told her that wouldn't be possible but that Jane could probably write her a letter. To that Siobhan replied, 'Oh I would LOVE that!' I love my little girl! I think this hair cut made her age about 2 years in looks and personality!

I don't why, but these pictures aren't lining up the way I want them to. Sometimes blogger drives me crazy!!!!
