Baby Will's Debut

I know that my sister already did a post about our new arrival on her blog (Thanks Meredith-I still can't figure out why I couldn't post on my blog in the hospital) but I wanted to post on our blog. So if you follow her blog, double dose of Will. If you follow only my blog and haven't a clue who my sister is so why would you follow her blog, here's a heaping helping of the
adorableness that is
William Phinehas Mitchell!
Here's the story:
I woke up on Wednesday morning (2/11/09) at midnight on the dot with a horrible contraction. I didn't really think about it much becuase at this stage in pregnancy, that happens. So I breathed through the contaction and went back to sleep. 25 minutes later, I was at it again. 20 minutes after that, same thing. That went on for a while and by 1 am, they were 8 minutes apart. By 2 am, they were about 3 minutes apart. That meant heading for the hospital. We packed up the girls and took them to our awesome friends the Huish family. I felt so bad for waking them up at 3 am. Oh well, you gotta do what you gotta do. By then, the contractions were literally on top of each other and we had about a 40 minute drive to the hospital. The drive there was literally like a scene from a movie. It had been snowing so the roads were icy, I almost made Carson take me to a closer hospital, I was very worried that I was going to deliver on the side of the road, I kept telling him to drive faster, he had one hand on the wheel and one hand up timing my breathing and we got to the hospital just in time. He even left the car in the middle of the road, running, while he got me in. We arrived at the hospital at 3:45 and William made his appearance at 4:36 am. My doctor almost didn't make it. When I got to the hospital, I was literally ready to push and my doctor got there just in time to catch. Many of you know that I had the goal of doing this one natural and it's a good thing that I had that goal becuase I wouldn't have been able to get the epidural even if I wanted it. I'm so glad that I was prepared.
Vital Statistics
Weight: 7 lbs 13 oz
Height: 21 1/2 inches
Arrival Date: 2/11/2009
Arrival Time: 4:36 am
Now please enjoy some pictures of our adorable little man. These are from the hospital and from the day we came home.

Mommy and her Baby Boy literally seconds after delivery.

I had to post this picture. Does anyone remember how big Siobhan's feet were when she was born? Check out those tootsies. I can actually fold them up on to his legs.

Me and the kiddos. I can't believe there's three of them now! I made both of the girls 'Big Sister' T-shirts and Will got a 'Little Brother' onsie. I'm not sure what Siobhan is doing in this picture.

Check out that head of hair! He was given his first bath by some nursing students and apparently his hair was the talk of the nursery. They had a lot of fun styling it!

Will was very excited to go home as were Carson and I!

Quote #5

Well, if nobody gets this one (or even guesses for that matter) I guess I will put my game away until further notice. But good guess Molly on that last one. It was actually from Kung Fu Panda though. Although I can definitely see how one could make the Ratatouille connection. The quote is from the scene where Po wants to quit being the Dragon Warrior and Master Oogway (the wise old turtle) responds to him by saying Quit, don't quit, noodles, don't noodles. So this next one is from a movie that I know many of you have seen. It's one of our favorite parts to quote. It's more of a monologue so here goes:

"I'd take pleasure in guttin' you, boy. I'd take pleasure in guttin' you... boy." What is wrong with these people, huh? Mason? Don't you think there's a lot of, uh, a lot of anger flowing around this island? Kind of a pubescent volatility? Don't you think? A lotta angst, a lot of "I'm sixteen, I'm angry at my father" syndrome? I mean grow up! We're stuck on an island with a bunch of violence-for-pleasure-seeking psycophatic marines, SHAME-ON-THEM!

Siobhan's First Interview

I copied this idea from my sister Meredith who copied it from her sister-in-law Jeannie who does interviews periodically with her kids and posts them on the blog. This was very spur of the moment so I didn't really think of any crazy questions but it was still fun.
Mommy: Siobhan, what's your favorite time of day?

Siobhan: Ummm.....uhhhhh....Stay home.

Mommy: Interesting. What's your favorite outfit?

Siobhan: My crown outfit. You remember, I just got that one, that short sleeved shirt?

Mommy: I thought you like to wear jammies the best?

Siobhan: I know. I said I want to wear clothes too.

Mommy: What's your favorite food?

Siobhan: Chicken and peanut butter and jam (PB&J is news to mom), tortilla con queso, and then......cereal.

Mommy: What kind of cereal?

Siobhan: Chocolate cereal. Audrey likes chocolate cereal and you like chocolate cereal. But I don't like raisins in my cereal. You remember you gave me that cereal?

Mommy: Siobhan do you want to go downstairs and get a movie to put on the computer while I do more cleaning? Do you need me to open the gate?

Siobhan: Yeah, I can't climb over in footie jammies. Mom, I seriously found it! Red alphabet frong movie!

Adurey Always Has a Different Plan

What started as a quest to prove to the blogosphere (but mostly myself) that I'm a good bed maker, quickley turned into a photo essay completely dedicated to my second born. By the way, does anyone have a good non-condescending way of referring to the second child? I don't like calling her my second born, but it's what she is. I don't like having numbers assigned to my offspring....I worry that it will give them a complex. So here's some blog love for the little cutie pants. I just love the gap she has in her front teeth. Such character. Mind you all that she is still in her jammies with nappy hair and marker on her face....a situation that has been rectified but she's sleeping right now so I have no proof. You'll have to take my word for it.

She's such a pip squeek. She has a hard time getting into her bed still. That's her cool Elmo stool that is just the right height to give her the extra inches she needs!

Finally, I captured a descent picture of Audrey with the elusive Mike Wisowski. She loves that little guy so much. Am I seeing a slight resemblance or do I just see this sight all too often?

Mugging for the camera as usual!

Doesn't matter where I am, Audrey somehow knows that I have pulled out the camera and knows exactly where to find me. She never goes into Siobhan's bedroom!

Proof!

I stated in this post that I wanted to become obsessive about bed making. I've been talking about it for a while with Carson and really expressing a desire to be better about it. I don't have any really great reason aside from the fact that I think it's a lost art and I kind of feel like I'm in a hotel when I climb into bed at night into a beautifully made bed with crisp sheets. And if I do get around to cleaning in a bedroom, it's never done until the bed's made. Sometimes it even motivates me in reverse. I'll make the bed first and then clean the bedroom because who wants to look at a beautifully made bed nestled among piles of dirty laundry and kid toys? So I've been getting really good at making our bed and I'm teaching the girls how to make theirs. I made them all this morning and I'm sad to say that both girls are napping thus undoing said bed making, but I can say that at least once today, all three beds in our house were made. Here's the pics to prove it:

Our master bed. Yes, we sleep in a bed that small. I love this bedding. My sister Meredith made it for me and I don't ever want to change it-one of the reasons that I don't want a new bigger bed because I don't want to change this bedding. Isn't it beautiful? Go tell Meredith I said so. How could you not want to make this bed everyday?

Audrey's new big kid bed. It's a little hard to make it look nice because I've got the wall on one side to contend with and the rail on the other side. But hey, the bed's made...and on another note, she loves being in the big bed. I'm so glad we did the railing though. We didn't need it for Siobhan even though she was about the same age when we moved her in. Siobhan was just much more sturdy than Audrey and the biggest movement she makes at night is pulling her thumb out of her mouth. Audrey on the other hand is a totally different story. All over the place!
Siobhan's bed. I know that the Tinkerbell pillow and all the guys amongst the pillows are not very fitting with the decor of the room, but she's got to have all of her friends. And below are some pics of Siobhan's room that she got for her birthday.

Some other views of Siobhan's room. Reading corner on the left and another view of her bed when you walk in. I love the color green that we chose. In the reading corner you'll notice the mobile that I made for Siobhan's nursery. I made it out of ballet shoe key rings, silk flowers, ribbon and a quilting ring. I thought that it made a good decorative ornament to hang above the reading corner. There's also letters that spell her name that are going between the posts of her bed. Just need to be sanded and they are doing up tonight!

Quote #4

The last one was from a movie called Oscar. It stars Sylvester Stallone and it's one of Carson's favorites. It's a satire of old school mafia movies. Sorry if it was another hard one. Hopefully all of you with kids will know this next one.

'Quit, don't quit, noodles, don't noodles.'

Quote #3

Alright, I expect very few to get this one. I am including the entire interchange in an effort to help you remember. I will post a hint later on this evening.
Man #1 - "Life, it's a funny thing. You're here one minute, gone the next. Take Louis the Lug, he died tragically at 25."
Man #2 - "What happened?"
Man #3 - "Someone stepped on his fingers."
Man #2 - "And that killed him?"
Man #3 - "Well, he was hanging from a window at the Edison Hotel at the time."

Seriously, this show is hilarious. When I post the answer, if any of you have not seen it, I strongly suggest checking it out. It is worth it.

Quote #2

Well, I thought that more people would get that last one...it turns out I had way too high of expectations when it comes to your knowledge of quotes from The Office. So to increase your trivial knowledge of the entire Dunder Mifflin Scranton Branch, that quote comes from the episode entitled Phyllis's Wedding and Dwight says it.
Since everyone who responded had a little bit of a hard time with that last one, hopefully this next one will be a little bit easier....

'We were on a break!'

A New Game *Now includes a hint

I love movie and tv quotes. My husband likes them almost as much as I do and Siobhan is starting to use them in her daily vernacular as well. To me, a quote from a movie or tv show can be found for any situation. When I was in China, I became so well known for the use of my quotes that at the end of the semester, I was given the 'quote queen' award. So I thought that to kill time until the baby comes and get a little chuckle along the way to take my mind off the fact I'm insanely uncomfortable, I would start a game. So everyday, I'm going to post a quote from a movie or tv show, but I'm not going to tell you who/what it's from. Let me know if you need a hint, I might (probably supply one). All that I need to know is what it came from. I don't need to know who said it or anything like that. If I wanted to be really mean, I would make you tell me who said it, in what scene or which episode and other random trivia. I do that to Carson all the time. But all I need from you guys is what tv show or movie its from. Now lets get started:
'Why are all these people here? There's too many people on this earth, we need a new plague. Who are all these people?'
Leave your comments and have some fun!
*Hint: The EPISODE that it comes from is centered around a wedding.*

Baby Will Progress Report

Went to the doctor on Wednesday and nothing has changed since last week. Although he did try to tell me that I was only 1 centimeter dilated when last week he told me I was 2. I called him on it and he said that there's just really no change, but he had a hard measuring in the first place because of my anatomy-how's that for being politically correct. He said that if I want to be induced (I still don't) that he wouldn't even think about doing until the 17th. So now we wait.....

Before The New Addition Comes

We decided to have our last nice outing as a family of four. I know that we still technically have a few more weeks, but all babies and all pregnancies are different and when you're not scheduled for inductions or C-sections, they can also be very unpredictable. I have a feeling that Will is going to make his presence know fairly soon, so we decided to have our family date this past Saturday so we could actually treat the girls before all the changes come. We decided to go to Red Robin for dinner I actually wanted to go to The Olive Garden but their wait was too long and when I suggested Rockbottom Brewery, Siobhan made it very clear that she had no interest in going there. We want to make everyone happy so we ended up at Red Robin and we had a very nice dinner. We had been promising the girls (mainly Siobhan because Audrey only cares so much) that we would take them to see The Tale of Despereaux. Lucky for us it was playing at a cheap theater ($1.75 for an evening show and the place wasn't even a dive) and we were able to go to the movie. It was not what I expected, but still cute and Siobhan loved it. Audrey on the other hand had a hard time sitting still. To be expected of course from a 19 month old. We had a great time but we sure can't wait for this little guy to join our brood!

Carson with his girls. I always wonder what I'm going to do with a little boy, but I also kind of wonder what he's going to do when he actually has someone to go throw a base ball with and go on father-son camp outs with. Big changes for all!

Me and my two cuties! I love these girls so much!

Don't know how many more of these we'll take before Will comes!

My Two Little Hams

I'm pretty sure that I have the cutest/goofiest kids in the world. They always make the funniest faces in pictures. These aren't the best examples of just how far they take the siliness, but they are super cute! Notice how Siobhan is in jammies in every single one!
Siobhan at Red Robin

During dinner the other night.
Audrey playing on a giant bear and eating a bag of croutons.
As soon as I bust out the camera she runs up as fast as she can and gets as close to it as she can.
They always pose for a pic!

Siobhan will even do something cute and tell me to go get the camera and asks if I want to take a picture. It was really hard to explain when the camera wasn't working. It made her sad.

Baby Will Status Update

We went to the doctor last weds and he decided to check my progress because I had a lot of contractions while Carson was out of town and there were a couple of times that I almost went in. So he checked and I was 2 centimeters dilated and 60% effaced. He told me that if he was a betting man, he would see me at my next appointment which is tomorrow. He also told me that I've had the due date wrong this whole time and it's actually Feb 25th not the 20th. It's not fair, in the same appointment, they gave me two due dates so, of course, I went with the sooner one. Apparently I should have gone with the later one as it's more scientific. Well, I'm pretty sure that I'm not going to make it the 20th so I'm still sticking with it. We'll see what happens tomorrow.

Let Me Count The Ways

There are many reasons why I love my husband. I'll leave it up to all of your imaginations and save all the mushy stuff for another post.....mostly because my Aunt Shelly will barf. But one of the reasons that I totally love him is because he can only listen to my complaining for so long before he has to do something about it. If only to save his own sanity. Remember me mentioning that our camera was constantly on the fritz and literally on it's last legs? Well, the straw that broke the camels back was when we lost our charger. I told him that he had to find it before we had the baby so that we would have a working camera when our third child was born. Well, after an exhaustive search coming up dry and pricing out what it would cost for a new one, he determined that it would be foolish to pay that much to replace a charger for a camera that had succumbed to the antics of a three year old. So he bought us a new one. I know I mentioned this all before, but I wanted to give some background. I think that you will all be impressed with the quality upgrade.

Picture on the left taken with the old camera (aka Old and Busted POS). Picture on the right taken with the new camera (aka New Hotness).
I think the difference is pretty obvious! Also, are you sensing a recurring theme? I don't know why my kids like to sit in the fridge. Are all kids this weird? You know what else is funny about these pictures? The first one was taken in the evening so it's normal for the kiddos to be in their jammies. However, the second one was taken in the middle of the day and Siobhan was, again, in her jammies. This is not because I left her in them, it's because that was her second costume change of the day. I.E. I changed her out of her jammies into clothes, and then she changed again into different jammies. The girl is obsessed with pajamas. All you moms out there, is that a normal phase?

Guilty Pleasures

We all have them and seems like for me, they really come out when I'm pregnant. I'm sure it's a combination of hunger and hormones. Either way, they really become apparent. It's almost embarrassing. Current 'guilty pleasures' include the song Womanizer by Brittney Spears and Italian Grandmother Pie. I would never, ever, not now, not ever call myself a Brittney Spears fan. Frankly, most of her music, I could take it or leave it. Nothing personal, I just don't have a real use for it. However, I know that I like a song when I lose sleep because I'm choreographing to it. Funny story....that actually happened when I had a sleep study done to find out why I was literally sleeping like 15 hours a day when we first moved here. I spent the entire sleep study choreographing to an Incubus song. But for some reason, everything showed that I slept the entire night. Could have fooled me. Turns out I was having a hard time adjusting to the altitude. So the other night, much to Carson's dismay, I started to choreograph a dance to Womanizer. It bugs Carson because I end up moving around the bed much more than normal and I always end up tapping a beat against his leg with my foot. Combine that with the moving baby kicking his arms and back and it makes for a very restless night for Carson. Oh well. But the dance is going to be really cute. All jazzy and totally out of my element. I can't wait to not be pregnant and get through my six week respit so I can actually dance it!

Now onto the Italian Grandmother Pie. This dessert is amazing! It's also so easy! The crust has like four ingredients and the custard filling is much easier than I ever expected it to be. The hardest part of the custard is separating the eggs and making sure that the milk doesn't burn while you boil it. There are also many different variations that you can do such as adding citrus extract and zest to create either a lemon or orange flavor as well as making it a chocolate custard. Ummmmm, so good!

This picture is what the pie is supposed to look like....mine never turns out this pretty, but I would rather eat something that looks less than perfect because then I don't feel like I'm ruining anything. Anyone who knows us, also knows that we LOVE Italian food. It's a sick possessive love affair, really. We have something that is Italian in some way at least once a week, maybe even more. Needless to say, we go through a lot of garlic and basil in our house, oh and olive oil. My MIL sent us a fat cookbook (PHAT in that it's awesome and fat as in it's three inches thick) that has pretty much any Italian recipe in it. It also tells you the origin of the recipe and how easy or hard it it. We loves it! If you ever need a good authentic Italian recipe, let me know as I most likely have it.

Other list worthy items to include under the 'Guilty Pleasures' umbrella include Facebook, Organic Raisin Bran from Costco, Soda (I really try to limit my intake while I'm pregnant...hasn't worked this pregnancy), Adele, U2, actually indulging my pregnancy cravings, The Biggest Loser Couples and American Idol.

Now I feel that because I'm indulging all of these wonderfully bad for me things, I feel like I should indulge some other desires as well to balance things out. Maybe things that aren't as enjoyable, but things that will make my life better in the long run. This list includes becoming neurotic about making our bed, getting laundry done and folded and put away all in the same day, looking for people to serve-especially when I'm having a pity party, doing the dishes more often so Carson isn't always stuck doing them and the all important disciplining my children in a loving consistent way rather then flying off the handle. All of these seem doable.

By the way, has anyone noticed that Gavin Rossdale sounds exactly like Peter Gabriel when he sings. I only noticed it because I'm listening to my iTunes while writing this and it was on shuffle which resulted in one playing right after the other. I never realized it when he sang in Bush.
