Fun Project

A few weeks ago, I had the chance to work on an awesome project for a family in our ward. They recently found out that their little baby boy is legally blind. So a few of us in the ward contributed pages for a quiet book filled with all different textures. It was so much fun finding the different materials that might appeal to his senses. I did a few pages out of terry cloth, a few out of denim and a few out of felt. Here's some pictures:

The cover ended up being the page that I did with the big 'C'. It was made out of a wash cloth and thrifted place mat that had a really cool weave. The page with the strips was the other side. In between I put a piece of wax paper to make some really cool sound. I sewed all the strips on differently to add even more texture.

These are the two ocean scenes that I did. Under the sea was made with a wash cloth, denim fish, felt sand and terry cloth seaweed. The horizon was felt with denim water, and the dolphins were cut out from printed flannel and terry cloth birds.

The flower page was made out of denim, terry cloth, flannel and felt. The little boy was a lot of fun to make. The shorts were made from a silk tie that accidentally went through the washing machine and the shirt was the inside of the tie. The hands, feet and head were made out of the lining of an old bridesmaid dress.
This project was so super fun to do and I'm happy that I was able to make something so fun for such a sweet little guy! And I know that I'm going to end up make one for Will here very soon. I think he would like it a lot!
