King of the Stable-Day 1

I stole an idea from my sister Meredith this year for a countdown to Christmas tradition. I wrapped up all of our Christmas storybooks and placed them under the tree. We get to open one each day and read the story to help us get into the Christmas spirit. Some of the stories are spiritual and others are more secular, but they all help us get into the spirit. We started last night, but I didn't get to blog about it until now. We read the book King of the Stable by, Melody Carlson and it was the perfect way to start our tradition! It's about a little boy who grows up in a privileged household and then one day without warning, he is sent to live with his uncle, an in keeper, in Bethlehem. This little boy, Matthew, is put in charge of caring for and cleaning the stable. One day, a young couple comes and they need a room as the wife is about to give birth. The inn is full, but Matthew takes care of them in his stable....you can imagine the rest. It was a beautiful story and a great way to begin us on the path of remembering the true spirit of Christmas!

we started that same tradition last year. Do you really have 25 christmas books already? We're just adding each year. It's a great idea.

That was our book number 2 for tonight, the kids kind of got bored of it, meanwhile I was crying trying to finish it! Kristin - I have extras if you need to borrow any!

Molly, Adurey lost interest but she did enjoy the fact that there was a character named Jacob and she recognized the name from the Book of Mormon as we had read about him the night before. Siobhan's really excited about Mary and Joseph this year, so she thought it was pretty cool.

Kristin, I got a lot of them from my mom and others that I have collected over the last few years. I don't have 24, but I'm planning on doing some thrifting in the next few weeks to round out the collection.
